Breast Reduction Redlands
Conveniently located to serve Riverside, San Bernardino, and Redlands
Large breasts may be cosmetically desirable for some women, but they often result in unwanted side effects, such as the chronic neck, back, and shoulder pain, poor posture, or a skin rash below and between the breasts. Many large-breasted women develop deep grooves on their shoulders from bra straps. Physical activities may be restricted, and fitting and wearing comfortable clothes may be difficult. For women dissatisfied with these side effects, breast reduction can be the answer.
Ideal Candidates for Breast Reduction
The breast reduction procedure can be performed on women of any age with oversized breasts. However, it is important that the breasts are fully developed before a date is set for the procedure. This helps to avoid changes in results due to the natural growth process.
Ideal breast reduction candidates have realistic expectations regarding the results of the surgery. Additionally, good candidates are in good overall health, since this reduces the chance of complications.
Non-smokers are preferred since smoking negatively affects the health of the tissues. This results in a prolonged healing process and a greater risk of post-surgical complications.
Breast Reduction Procedure
Breast reduction surgery can be conducted on an inpatient or outpatient basis. General anesthesia is most commonly used. California plastic surgeon Dr. Rau makes an anchor-shaped incision around the areola, vertically from the areola to the natural crease below the breast, and horizontally across the crease below the breast. Excess skin, fat, and breast tissue is removed to reach the desired size. Sutures are used to close the incision. If the reduction is dramatic, the areola may need to be removed and repositioned on the breast. Breast reduction surgery generally lasts about 3 hours.
Recovery from Breast Reduction
Drainage tubes may be inserted in the breasts to help remove excess liquid the first day or two after the surgery. A dressing will also cover the area.
You will feel a degree of soreness for a few days after the procedure. To manage this, pain medications will be prescribed to you. Swelling, bruising, and sensitivity are normal in the first few weeks and will dissipate over time. To aid in the reduction of swelling, an ice pack can be held against the area.
Generally, sutures are removed in 7 to 10 days and patients return to work within 2 to 3 weeks. However, no heavy lifting or strenuous activity is permitted for 4 to 6 weeks after breast reduction surgery.
I REALLY RECOMMEND HIM
Before my surgery I was so scared. I was planning to go get at least 3 doctors’ opinions. However, when I had my consultation with Dr. Rau, I felt that he was the one who’d fix my breast problem. I wasn’t wrong. I cancel the consultation with the other 2 doctors and chose Dr. Rau. I had my breast reduction and I couldn’t be more happier and satisfied with the results. And my husband loves the results as well. I really recommend him.
